I wanted to make something that felt like it had been sitting at the bottom of the ocean for a few centuries. It started with those heavy, scalloped ridges, and I kept the finish dark and gritty to let the texture do the talking. The little white speckles along the edges remind me of salt or barnacles. It’s got some real weight to it and a rough, stone-like feel in your hands. Definitely more of a sculpture than a standard vase.
Black mid-fire clay. Glazed at the inside. The vase has textured and tactile surface.
