Black Shell
I wanted to make something that felt like it had been sitting at the bottom of the ocean for a few centuries. It started with those heavy, scalloped ridges, and I kept the finish dark and gritty to let the texture do the talking. The white speckles along the edges read like salt, or barnacles — traces of another world entirely.
This hand-built sculptural ceramic vessel has real physical weight and a rough, stone-like surface. It's more sculpture than standard vase — a ceramic art object for collectors drawn to raw materiality and the unapologetic presence of dark stoneware. Works powerfully in a contemporary interior alongside natural materials.
Materials: Black mid-fire stoneware clay. Glazed interior. Heavily textured, tactile exterior surface.
Dimensions:
Height: 9.5”
Width: 9.5”
Care: Hand wash only
One-of-a-kind, hand-built in my San Francisco Bay Area studio. Processing time 2–3 business days.
Please note: every effort is made to represent each piece accurately, though finishes may appear slightly different in person due to natural lighting and screen variations.
